Who was Kramer?

Lud Kramer lived in Liberty Lake from 1995 until he died in 2004 at 71. He led the charge to build Pavillion Park, helped the city incorporate, helped create the Liberty Lake Library and advocated for the pedestrian bridge over Interstate 90 to connect the city with the Centennial Trail.

Kramer was Washington’s secretary of state from 1965 to 1975.

The Spokane Symphony will present its annual Lud Kramer Memorial Concert on Saturday at Pavillion Park, Country Vista and Molter Road, in Liberty Lake.

Community Development Director Doug Smith said in conjunction with the concert, the city will celebrate its 10th anniversary. There will be cake, current and former city officials, speeches and memories of the city before the show starts, although he is rather tight-lipped about some of the events.

“That part is a surprise, actually,” he said. “We’ve got to keep the suspense building.”

The evening will start at 5 p.m. before the symphony takes the stage at 6 p.m. Last year the park was filled to capacity for the event.

Smith said the evening is great for people-watchers. It is also a great way to reconnect with neighbors after a busy summer.

The symphony is scheduled to play “The Star-Spangled Banner,” selections from Bizet, Grieg, Irving Berlin, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, and an arrangement of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
