» Morihiko Nakahara, the right-hand man to Music Director Eckart Preu, has a new title with the Spokane Symphony and a new job out of town.

» Nakahara, who has served as the symphony's associate conductor since September 2003, has been named resident conductor and signed a two-year contract through the 2009-10 season.

» He also has been selected as the next music director for the South Carolina Philharmonic in Columbia, S.C. As a result, he is relinquishing his role as head of the orchestra program at Eastern Washington University.

» With the symphony, Nakahara is primary conductor of the SuperPops series, works with Preu to develop the Casual Classics and Symphony on the Edge programs, and plans and conducts one Classics concert each season.
