SPOKANE: Some of the most greatest movie scores John Williams has produced will captivate your ears to familiar compositions on February 19, 2005 at the Spokane Opera House at 8 p.m.
Of the giants of the silver screen, few have equaled the accolades received by composer John Williams. Williams has received five Academy Awards, 17 Grammy's, three Golden Globes, two Emmys and five BAFTA Awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He has composed and served as music director for nearly 80 films. On June 23, 2000, Williams became the first inductee into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.
John Williams has been called the most successful, popular and well-known film music composer of all time. His signature sweeping themes, intense action, and hint of magic has made each movie score rich and memorable. He has conducted in a number of major orchestras and holds honorary degrees from 14 American universities.
Williams' scores for such films as Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Schindler's List, as well as the Indiana Jones series, have won him many of these awards and produced best-selling recordings. His scores for the original Star Wars trilogy transformed the landscape of Hollywood film music and became icons of American culture. Williams list of creations also includes Star Wars, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, the Harry Potter films and many more.
Conductor Eckart Preu and the Spokane Symphony Chorale will perform some of William's greatest, most popular movie scores of all time, such as Star Wars, Empire of the Sun, Jurassic Park, E.T., J.F.K., Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Phantom Menace, Angela's Ashes, and Dry Your Tears Afrika theme from Amistad. This performance will captivate the audiences familiar theatrical senses and is a show not to be missed.
