Maestro’s Brew to be untapped Thursday at Steam Plant Grill

May 6, 2009

For Immediate Release

Contact: Annie Matlow 464-7071

A special “Maestro’s Brew” created by Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company under the direction of Spokane Symphony Music Director Eckart Preu is ready and the Maestro will take the first taste at the untapping Wednesday, May 13, at 5 p.m. at the Stream Plant Grill in Downtown Spokane.

The head brewers at the Steam Plant Grill and Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company worked with Eckart to discover what the German-born conductor liked in a beer. After tasting and discussing Eckart’s favorite beer profiles, they created a new recipe for the Maestro’s Brew. When it came time to brew this recipe for the first time ever, he was right there to participate in the process. Now you are invited to be there when Eckart tastes his own brew for the first time. After Eckart has the first pint, it will be available to the public at the Steam Plant Grill until the batch is gone. Owners of the Steam Plant Grill, Ron and Julie Wells, Gage and Spencer Stromberg, will make a donation to the Symphony for each pint sold.

The creation of the special brew is on the occasion of the Spokane Symphony and the Spokane Symphony Associates joining forces to create a new and exciting early Summer fundraiser, Best Fest featuring two “Best Of” concerts by the orchestra inside the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox and the Maestro’s Brew Party in a tent in the parking lot in conjunction with one of the concerts.

The Best Fest will begin on Friday, May 29, at 7 p.m. with The Best of Mozart. The light-hearted celebration of the music of one of Classical music’s most celebrated and revered composers will be under the always dynamic and entertaining Eckart Preu.

On Friday, June 5, as part of Downtown’s First Friday celebration, Eckart Preu and the members of the biggest band in town will play The Best of the Movie Music of John Williams in the Theater at 7 p.m. Members of the 501 Legion will appear in full Star Wars costumes to help kick off the program with the Star War’s theme.

In conjunction with the Pops-themed concert on June 5, the Maestro’s Brew Party will be open in tents in the theater parking lot from 5 to 10:30 p.m. featuring beer sampling, including the Maestro’s Brew, provided by Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company. Maestro Preu and musicians of the orchestra will join the “fun”raising event following the concert.

$15 tickets to the Maestro’s Brew Party include cover, 5 beer samples and live music from 5 to 7 p.m. and again after the concert. With the purchase of a ticket to the not-to-miss Best of John Williams concert, a ticket package for an additional $5 provides admission the Maestro’s Brew Party.

Tickets for the concerts are $20, $30, $40 for one of the concerts, or $35, $55 and $75 for both concerts. Tickets for all three events are on sale at the Spokane Symphony Ticket office, Ticketswest outlets and at www.spokanesymphony.org.

The Maestro’s Brew Party sponsors include: major sponsors, Steam Plant Grill, Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company and Spokane Metro Magazine; and Dave Biggs, Steve Coombs of Downtown Honda, Dolce, Edge Construction Supply.
