Spokane Symphony plays Peter and the Wolf in a Spooktacular performance

Oct 22, 2008

For Immediate Release

Contact: Annie Matlow 326-3136

The Spokane Symphony opens the doors of the historic Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. for a fun-filled concert of festive music for elementary ages.  The concert begins at 2 p.m. with an hour of fun activities before the show.  Full of iconic pieces and seasonal favorites, this concert is sure to delight children as well as adults.

This Spooktacular performance will feature several themed music pieces including Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.  This musical story is designed to introduce children to the different instruments that make up a symphony in a fun and engaging way.  The story will be narrated and the instruments will interact as the story is read aloud.  There will also be a selection of other pieces including The Planets- Mars, The Bringer of War, Peer Gynt, In the Hall of the Mountain King and the Imperial March – Darth Vader’s Theme from Star Wars.

This Spooktacular concert will be preceded by a number of activities for the kids.  Starting at 1 pm the pre-concert fun will include an instrument petting zoo and a group of African Drummers from GrantElementary School.  There will also be a Peter and the Wolf puppet show, which will introduce the story to children before they hear the story musically.  Kids will also be able to cast their vote for which symphony musician they think has the best costume.

Doors open at 1 p.m. for pre-concert activities, with the concert beginning at 2 p.m.

STCU is the underwriter of this concert.

Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults. Tickets are available in advance at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office, located at 1001 W.
