Peter Cetera Kicks Off 2008-2009 SuperPops Season

Sep 17, 2008

For Immediate Release

Contact: Annie Matlow 326-3136

SPOKANE – The windy city’s contribution to the rock and roll era is blowing into Spokane for the opening night of the 2008-2009 SuperPops Series. Peter Cetera, legendary bassist and former lead singer for the rock group Chicago, will be starring with the Spokane Symphony under the direction of Resident Conductor Morihiko Nakahara at the INB Performing Arts Center on September 27, 2008 at 8 pm.

Cetera got his start at age 14 when he bought his first guitar. He eventually moved on to be in a group called The Exceptions which was popular in the Midwestern United States. Cetera joined legendary rock group Chicago in 1967 and became a prolific songwriter during his tenure. During this time, he wrote and sang several hits such as “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” and “Wishing You Were Here.”

Cetera left Chicago in 1985 to pursue a solo career and has been wildly successful. He has had several #1 hits such as, “The Next Time I Fall,” and “Glory of Love.” He has also won awards from ASCAP for the Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures and BMI Film & TV for Song Most Performed from a Film. Cetera was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, and won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Male Artist. All Music Guide raved, “The keyboards and acoustic guitars shimmered, laying a bed for Cetera's keening voice, soaring through musical heaven.”

Tickets range from $23 to $53 and are available in advance at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office, 1001 W. Sprague, or by calling 509-624-1200. Tickets are also available at all TicketsWest outlets or by calling 1-800-325-SEAT and at spokanesymphony.org.
